ReplyDeleteFrom the class introduction, I am thinking about two words “hardware and software” if two things are compared to culture. Hardware is some kind of things I can see, such as environment, and lifestyle. Software is the insight like people’s thought, knowledge, attitudes, abilities, and feelings. When people do cross culture they should communicate with others in both effective speaker and listener in order to share experiences, information, feelings and questions. However, there are different kinds of speakers. Firstly, passive speaker is the people who keep quiet, or they know, but do not show. Secondly, aggressive speaker is the people who do not respect others ideas, and impolite. Lastly, a good speaker is the people who communicate in the polite way, and open mind. In term of listener, I am thinking about passive and active listeners. If we would like to be a good communicator, we should be a good speaker and active listener in order to show interest by encouraging a person to speak and ask questions to draw that person out. Tell them that you really want to listen and let them confident to speak up.

ReplyDeleteI am glad to meet you and study this course. Cross Cultural Communication is a good way for learners studying languages. It is because of this course can make students understand many things rather than learning only communication.
I think that culture and language are related together, so communicating people need to understand culture as well. Many times, people do not understand what they communicate with people in cross culture or even make a mistake about communication because they do not understand the culture of each other.
For example, American and Thai sometimes have problem because they do not learn traditions and manners. However, I hope that we will get more understanding from this course together. It is very interesting and valuable to ways of life.

At first, I think this coures is very difficult because i am not good at studying culture, social, or even politics. I am wrong. This course is very interesting. i am very impressed when you asked me "Who you are and Why you are". I exactly do not know how to answer that questions. So, it is the one reason that let me attend in class. Finally, i would like to praise you that your speaking and your teaching are very nice.
